Dupuytren’s Contracture

Dupuytren’s Contracture

Radiation therapy is an effective option for noncancerous conditions including Dupuytren’s contracture and Ledderhose’s disease.

Dupuytren’s Contracture and Lederhose Disease

Ackerman Cancer Center uses advanced radiation therapy technologies to treat Dupuytren’s contracture and Ledderhose’s disease, softening the tissue and relieving the symptoms.

Treatments

A variety of treatment options are available for Dupuytren’s contracture including surgery, needle aponeurotomy, collagen injection, steroid injections, cryosurgery, and radiation therapy.

Ackerman Cancer Center offers radiation therapy as a nonsurgical treatment option. To treat Dupuytren’s, radiation is delivered directly to the diseased tissue daily for 5 days in a row, followed by a treatment-free period ranging from 6 to 12 weeks. Finally, an additional series of five treatments is administered.

The radiation works to soften the affected tissue and restore function. It also helps prevent future contraction of the cords or nodules from forming. Treatment is most effective in the early stages of the disease but may also be beneficial in later disease.

The board-certified radiation oncologists at Ackerman Cancer Center work closely with each patient to develop a radiation treatment plan designed to produce optimal results for patients with Dupuytren’s and Ledderhose.
