Florida Cancer Connect- A Resource for All Touched By and Diagnosed with Cancer
The First Lady of Florida Casey DeSantis, wife of Florida’s 64th Governor Ron DeSantis, unveiled “Florida Cancer Connect” a healthcare initiative founded by the First Lady alongside the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA).
“What is cancer connect? It is an all-encompassing resource”, said First Lady DeSantis. The Florida Cancer Connect website will include resources that educate on preventative screening services and research, treatment options and provider locations, support group information, survivor testimonials, and more.
The goal of Florida Cancer Connect is to create a resource that First Lady DeSantis described as a “one-stop shop”, for those touched and diagnosed with cancer, their families, and their caregivers.
Simone Marstiller, Secretary of the Florida Agency of Health Care Administration, described the initiative as “A work of love,”. Ms. Marstiller stated, “This is what the state government should be here for.”
Dr. Scot Ackerman, Medical Director of Ackerman Cancer Center, also spoke on the importance of resources for cancer screening and prevention. “For over 30 years I have had the opportunity to serve our community by treating cancer patients and I am joined here today by our incredible staff and former patients who are really resilient cancer survivors,” said Dr. Scot Ackerman, MD. “Cancer screening plays a crucial role in preventing cancer and diagnosing cancer early. Diagnosing cancer early makes it easier to treat and gives us as a better chance to cure our patients. Today we heard about improvements in access to cancer treatment options and access to cancer resources and these will lead to better outcomes for all Floridians.”
